Just wondering if you all can fill me in on the differences in the "S" model and the others. I just picked up a 65 S Notch and can see the noticable lisence light S but was wondering what the other differences were. Is the hood trim different also?
Thanks for the info,

| OK, here goes (although I probably missed some stuff). The "S" model consisted of both an interior and exterior package. The interior consisted of 2 peice door panels with an upper black plastic trim piece that would flow into the dash. They also used "Z" style arm rests. The seats could have 2 patterns on them also. These cars also came with a clock while the "N" just got a blanking panel there. The exterior package consisted of appearance items, such as chrome molding on the sides (upper) and front hood. It also included chrome bezels for the rear reflectors, and the "S" on the license plate light. There were also 3 engines available for them too, the most common being the high compression dual carb 1500 motor, then the low compression 1500 motor and in some places the single carb 1500 motor. This last one is commonly found in "N" models, but could be ordered for the upgraded "S". Basically speaking the "S" was an optioned out "N". I hope this helps. |

I also believe that the S model offered pop out windows and
dual carbs. That is what is on mine along with everything else Bobnotch wrote. I am not 100% sure, but that is what I found out when I bought mine. 8) |

| I believe those cool side marker lights along the trim line were an s class featuree as well as a little lever at the bottom of the front door jambs. The little lever was connected to a cable wich ran under the carpet along the pan edge to the foot panel, to the tunnel, down to the side of the seat. When you opened the door this mechanism was supposed to unlock the seat backs automatically. |

Actually the side marker lights were required for different countries. Depending on the country, the lights had different colors, some red and white, and some orange. Everett could explain this better, as he knows which country got what. The little lever was for the seats, and was required to move the back rest forward for rear seat use. This was stadard on all the early cars. The "N" style cars did however get a prop rod for the rear trunk lid, where the "S" got springs. |

N model also had:
Front bullet turn signals instead of wrap-around signals
Shorter color-matcher rear reflector bases. S has chrome wrap-around bases
Flat rear taillight lenses
No passenger side door lock
Prop rods for front and rear trunk lids
Beetle style door arm rests
No passenger sun visor
Ns usually had a single carb. engine but engines varied... |
