| I have a 74 super beetle carberated and it seems to stall out at idle or when I take my foot off of the gas. If I loosen the air bypass valve it seems to run and idle great. My question is what does this valve do and should it be tight against the carb. There is power to the valve when I checked it at idle. Can someone tell me what to do from here or do I leave it loose? |

| OK..that screw next to the carb..lol. Get two people. one to be in the car and start it, and ref it up, the other to adjust it. turn it clockwise to idle higher, counter clockwise to idle lower. when you get to the point where it idles nice and smooth but not too loud leave it. I think that was your prob, or did I miss understand you? Just adjust it the level where it idles on its own without shutting off. If that does not work, seems your carb could be leaking gas..its happens from where it meets the intake from the seal. Check it out. Good luck! |
