O.K. theres '66, '63 only threads and I dont want to get crazy here because we can eventually end up with threads for every year VW, but it can actually be a helpful tool for people looking for year specific info (in addition to the technical section already on here) and I'm building my '62 ragtop and I want some ideas...especially colors.
So, please post your '62 bugs ('62 ragtops would be even better). Please let us know what color (paint and interior) you have and if your color is stock for '62 or not. If its not please let us know what year vehicle and make (if non vw) your paint color is originally from. |

Great idea, was hoping someone would get a thread going for the 62 guys :D
Not stock color, and the hood isn't correct:
I plan on doing silver with red interior during my restore. Let's see some more |

| Whats wrong with the hood? Looks correct with the flat emblem area and wolfsburg crest. |

| It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it doesn't have the flat spot for the emblem, it's raised. Someone attached the crest onto this hood. |

Other pics in the gallery under my user name. Original paint except for the doors and the right front fender. Paint has been touched up around the windshield and in the spare tire well. Wheels are original paint.
Interior is original except for later perforated vinyl headliner. Rack was not original to the car but I believe it is the correct vintage. Ditto the fender guards, door sill covers, and mud flaps. Running board covers are replacements but correct color.
Radio speaker is not stock nor even correct vintage but the original type speaker sounds terrible compared to this Radio Shack one. The radio is a period correct add-on but the car came without a radio. The blinker relay I believe is not supposed to be on the speedometer but instead on a hole cut into the bottom of the trunk floor nearby, and I've moved it there since. Electric windshield washer pump is vintage accessory.
Engine is a '64 but all the bits (shroud, air filter, tin, air control ring, carb, distributor, fuel pump, etc. etc.) are correct for the vintage. |

Nice, Ive seen your car before at shows and I always love it.
About your comment on the roofrack. According to VW sales brochures '64 was the last year for woodslat roof racks and '65 was the first year for all metal racks. So if absolute to the build year period perfect time capsule originality is what someone wants then its not correct, though its not to say the original owner of a pre '65 bug couldnt have walked into a VW dealer after '64 to get an all metal rack for their car. |

Shalavette, still one of my favorite cars on here. Love it!
Here's mine, still very much a work in progress, albeit a driveable one

Nice car
I don't know...I really like the black and bright white on the wheels with the Turkis. Everybody does aftermarket wheels.
Now white 5-spokes...there's an idea. |
