  View original topic: Dual Webers and Spark Plug Leads

I am having trouble removing the spark plug leads from the plugs because they are jammed up against the intake manifold. I am running a pair of 40 IDF's on the shorty manifold's from CB Performance that fit under the deck of my 1970 Squareback. It looks like i might have to remove the manifolds to remove the spark plug wires, because I have not been able to pull them off with what I consider apropriate force.

Do they make angled spark plug leads (mine are the straight type, just like my stock wires on the original FI setup)? What have others done or encountered when running dual Webers?

i'm goin with the same setup on my fastback so i'd like to know myself. have you trid using pliers or channel locks to grab hold of the lead? i'm sure you can find a set of wires with the offset plug lead. i'm not sure if they make them for volks specificaly but you can always cut them to fit. let me know how hard it is to get the spark plugs them selves out also.

I used to run the IDF's on my square, short manifolds and air cleaners, and the wires were tough to get too, but not impossible. It might be that some wire sets will be easier to use, I seem to remember that mine were red wires with an angled grey tip. I don't think you can get to the spark plugs themselves Trip, I do believe you need to remove the manifolds. If I had kept the car longer, I would know for sure, but I only had the car together for a couple weeks.

Whew, I was able to remove the wires after gripping the ends with a wrench, using the extra length for more leverage, and then wiggling them until they came off. As for access to the spark plugs, it is NOT a straight shot. I looks like it will take a universal joint on the spark plug adapter to get at them, or remove the manifold.

I am running the 044 heads from CB Performance, and they installed the NGK 12mm plugs with 3/4" reach. I have 2 spark plug adapters at home, but neither fits. What size socket will I need to get the plugs out? Thanks.
