i tore my bug down last year and had it painted.. well now the paint is flaking off everywhere and im loosing the battle to primer and rust.. i have no money to get another paintjob.. about the best i can do is buy regular spray paint cans from home depot.. what should i do? would this not be worth it?
the paint never had a clear coat.. i think that might have done it.. its kind of depressing to do all that work and spend all that money then see it fall apart so quickly.

Hey TD, I think you should save your money or make a loan from a family member to do it right. If you keep trying to spend more money in a quick fix you'll just make more work for yourself or for the next person who fixes it,and it will cost you more.

You might want to go back to your painter and see if he will stand behind it. If it's single stage and flaking like mad I would bet it is a case of poor prep or waiting on a sealer to long. Paint will fade due to time but rarely just flake off.

Sounds like the prep job before the pain was applied is the problem here. Did you take it all the way down to bare metal???? I know you feel, I had my truck painted at macco after I was rear-ended and no the paint in the bed is peeling up and I can still see where the jerks painted over dirt!!!!!! Macco sucks.

good luck

yea we did take it all the way down to bare metal.. took about 7 layers of paint off to get to the metal.. all that work and now its crap a year later

Then I would have to agree with Big Mac and take it back to the painter, he should stand behind his work especialy if that paint is only a year old.

Good luck.

Hey TD how much did that guy charge you for the paint job?

grottoboy101 Sat Feb 21, 2004 7:26 pm

what kind of paint did he use ???....when it got striped if you sanded the metal down with any thing more than 80grit the paint wont stick...120 grit will make it too slick and the primer will have noghing to grab ahold of..

120 will make it to slick? All bog should be finished in 120/180 so that when it is primed it fills all the marks and there would be less chance of sinkback at a later stage.

For all the custom cars i have done we finish in 400 for a total flat mirror finish and i have never had paint not stick.. just wondering where you got that info dude?????

steff.............
