hey guys, i got a breather box to help vent my case and heads, the style for a type 3. i can't get my old one apart. the breather is held in my gland nut and i can't get it loose. just wondering if anyone here had taken theirs apart and what they used. i bent up a peice of metal to fit into the little tabs but it just bent the metal. its either frozen on or just real tight. thanks for any help

Can't help I'm affraid but I'd be interested to know where you purchased the T3 breather from?

Cheers,

I think a 1" internal pipe wrench works for these. This is what most of the type1 guys use, and VW used the same parts on the type3. You might check the hardware stores around you, or your friendly neighborhood plummer. I hope this helps.

I got the gland removal tool made by EMPI, that fits inside with a swival thingy that grabs hold, probably like the internal pipe wrench suggested by Bobnotch. I have also seen another style out there, I think from CIP1. Happy hunting.

I have the tool that SquareD mentioned, found it at the local VW parts place for $5 or so.

It's not that tight of a fit and I've gotten the impression that the breather nut really stuck, it wouldn't work.
