View original topic: Replacing side trim after paint, the trim clip holes?
Jim Clark Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:23 am

I have the newly painted fenders and doors back on my Squareback and I want to put the chrome trim on, but the plastic trim clips won't fit into the holes without drilling the new paint out. Whats the best thing to put on the clips to prevent rust if I drill them all out?

Cheers

Jim :)

Sometimes the holes are just covered over a bit with bondo, primer, and paint. You can use a small round mill bastard file to enlarge the holes back to stock size. Then get in there with some leftover touch up paint. One car we did had seam sealer on the clips because they fit tighter that way.

Cheers Guys,

I will dab a bit of seam sealer in.

The clips slide in the trim, so you would be better off just drilling fresh holes anyway.
