I'm looking for a good junkyard in northern california for bay window parts, so far the wrecking yards in my area (sounds impossible but i've called them...) don't have any vw's?! I don't know what the deal is with this, but can someone from the bay area reccomend a good place for used parts? Thanks.

I've never been to a local junkyard that didn't have a bus. Having said that, finding a particular year or one that isn't already stripped is tough. In general, the further you go out of the city centers the more likely you are to find parts. Of couse, on the days a new bus comes into the yard...

These places charge $2 to enter and you have to bring your own tools:

I am in Fresno, Calif. The 3 self-serve yards here were crushing [on average] 12 bays a month! Now I am lucky if I see 1 bay a month at each one. The Pick a Part here was getting their inventory from Oakland. Pick n Pull was from all over. Westside gets local vehicles. The supply is drying up. Even Vanagon's are getting few and far between.

What do you need?

I agree with karl. Pick a partin hayward hasn't had a bus in months. Actually, they only have 2 supers right now!

That's too bad; I guess I've been lucky.

I've got 3 junkyards within walking distance of my ouse, and they never have vdubs, except for one on a pole being used as a busines sign.

I get my stuf from www.wayoutsalvage.com and have them ship it.

chico pick-n-pull always has about 12+- 5 bugs and always about 3-4 bays and 1 vanagon. Instead of calling maybey you should go down and look, because the first time i called i asked if they had any busses and the guy said "uh, i dunno, we have alot of minivans"

I just drove up to Pick n Pull on Childs Ave in Merced.... about 50 miles north of me. I was there a month ago and they had 4 stripped bays. Today, ZERO bays. Just one air cooled Vanagon.

You can't call those places and ask: they don't even care what's inside when you ask at the gate.

You cannot get a direct phone # to any of the Pick n Pulls near me. All you get is a 1 800 number if you want them to buy your car. Pick a Part has a phone number but no one has a clue as to what's out in the yard.

Pick n pull in Fairfield Always had at least 8 buses to choose from. Ofcourse I haven't been there is 4 years.

if you don't mind making the trip over to Sacramento, they've got a great junkyard with only vw's. they don't really let you walk around, but if you need a part, they'll run out back and get it for you. they have everything, from seats, to emblems. pretty dope...i don't remember the name...but they are located on PFE road in the city of Roseville, Ca. maybe they have a site...anyone else been here?

Maybe you should tell us what you need? I have several Bay parts busses and i know Karl is a great source of late Westy parts at very fair prices. Just a thought.

Ok bra, I know the place in Roseville. It is called BW Auto Dismantlers and I have rebuilt 2 westys now by going to them. The number is 800-327-0888 or 916-969-1600. Ask for Jeff. I believe he is owner or part owner and he has gone out of his way many times for me to get parts. Good place.

I'll be visiting many of the above mentioned junkyards during the week or Nov 24-29. Any bus sightings would be appreciated...

Found this '78 today in the junkyard. Engine gone. Front seats still there in the brown weave vinyl and in great shape. Lots of good metal. Nice slider window also.

PM if you want details or want me to go get something for you.

Where is this?

One man's junk is another man's treasure. Funny that so much of that bus has been stripped and the sliding windows are still there.

Was the Dakota Beige over Panama Brown a one year only color?
