Has anyone done the 944 rear suspension upgrade to a Fastback?

Correct me if I am wrong..... A Porsche 944 is a front engine rear wheel drive, right?

Can the rear end do much good in a rear engine (limited space) rear wheel drive car?

It is all wrong....Right ??? [-X

Perhaps he is talking about a disk brake conversion?

I used to work on porsches and the 944 is front engine but rear transaxle. It was built this way for weight distribution. Weird eh? I always thought they would be good parts for vw customization but don't know of anyone doing it. 911 parts are similar and the earliest 911's had steel rear suspension parts like a VW and some owners replaced them with late model setups. A little different than swapping to a vw but maybee a clue? If you can find a porsche auto wreckers that will let you in you can take some measurements from 944's as well as 911's you can see what would work best and what kind of work would be involved. I would guess some cutting and welding at least.

I have been looking into this myself, this is the only link with some info. Other than that, so far only rumors that I have heard about the 944 rear suspention and brakes.

What year is your Fastback?
IRS VW's have the same set up as 924 / 944 Porsches, and can be pretty easily swapped.

Thank all of you for your replys. This swap of the 944 rear control arms is possible. It has the advantage of having rear disc brakes, a wider track to use wider wheels, and the 911 bolt pattern. I have just recently found the most info on Germanlook.com Thanks again guys.
