| hi folks! so i have an A1 watercooled VW (convertible) and i'd like to get my hands on a fastback. i'm curious how fast they can (easily) be gotten to go. the most souped-up ones i've seen online seem to be 2.0s with big dual carbs. does anyone have an idea how much hp/torque that is? thanks! |

The real question is, How much money do you have?
Seriously though, you can do something like what the Europeans are doing and either go with a large displacement Type IV or if you run across a 911 six cylinder you can do that. With a turbo you could get over 250hp. Sorry, i can't tell you about torque. But i know you can set it up to have it where you want it, down low, up high or across the board. Check out germanlook.com there are several ideas to be seen there. |

yeah, i should have seen that coming. of course, my response is to refer to improvements "within reason." let's call it a grand or two - what engine could i get?
thanks. |

For 2 grand.... it would be hard to do.
I have 3 into my 2 liter, heads ,carbs, crank and machine work will tie up most of the money.
HP? On street gas..140
True you try to turbo it or 911 conversion but that takes a lot more money and if you brake...
But is it worth it? YES , to be able to drop the pedal and go is a greeat feeling.
I have this motor in my fastback also...
If you are looking for a fastback to use we just got in a real nice 69 fastback W/ a factory sunroof..

Good luck with your project |

| well, i have 2200 into my 2332cc longblock for my notch and it has 154hp at the rear wheels. is that fast enough for a 2000lb car? for me it is, for racers it isn't. how fast do you want to spend? |

| 150hp in a one-ton car sounds great! how much did the 2.3 run you? |

| 2200... that was just for the longblock. i then added a set of 45mm dells and a custom step exhaust with ultraflow muffler... |

Glad to see another watercooled guy here :D
I'm just getting into the aircooled stuff myself. Its really something thats fresh, new, and different especially cause I'm used to mkIV guys. I've talked to several Type I and a couple type II people that I have seen in parking lots and such and they are all VERY chill. Overall I think the aircooled scene is a lot more mature and more about doing your own thing than trying to create a cookie cutter. A type 3 will also allow me to get the modding and tinkering bug out without spending huge amounts of $$$ on my mkIV and losing a warranty. I'm getting my fastback this Thanksgiving hopefully. Anyway, welcome from type 3 n00b to type 3 n00b.d |
