I remember reading an old VW ad stating that only two Beetles were sold in 1949 in the US. I was wondering if either of these two still exist? Not that I'd have the luck to find any split hidden away, just a curious question.

Even if it's true that only two Beetles were sold in '49, that doesn't mean only two '49 Beetles were sold. Even now alot of new cars are sold years later after they come new from the factory.

Only TWO We brought to the US to sell. First year they were exported. Sold by a dealership by Ben Pon, no one liked them because they were "Hitler's Car" Until the american's began seeing the gas price and economical difference. Then the numbers just went up.
Yes, only two came here, however German's sold hundreds over there, and in the last 50 years we have been trading vehicles worldwide, so there is more then 2 1949 VW's in America now. There is also earlier years, but they were transporter after 1960's, when the car became admirable.
