I am trying to decide if I want to put in a right-side stock mirror, or a pair of cal-look mirrors. Does anyone what any experience with these?
My goal is to have the most functional mirrors first, the worry about the overall look. I am kinda leaning toward cal-look anyway.
The goal with this car is to provide a good reliable daily driver. I will make it prettty later.
Thanks, |

Can't tell you about Cal-look, but here's my take on stock mirrors: I stripped the thread on my vert's left side mirror when reinstalling it (stoopidest thing I've done so far to my beetle) so I ordered a Japanese repro. Put it on but was never satisfied. Searched for months for a used original (hard to find as the late Super verts have a different mirror than earlier ones) and I finally gave up till I stumbled across a German one on the Wolfsburg West site. Ordered it and is a perfect copy, in fact looks like original equipment. So if you're going stock, try for German original equipment replacements if you can't find a used original. Wolfsburg West has always sold me great stuff.

The aftermarket mirrors tend to be poorly built and look tacky after a few years on the car. I agree 100% with the advice supervert has given. Other than nos Wolfsburg West is the best choice.

i'm going to avoid buying any aftermarket parts for my Beetle & future Beetle, i always hear bad things about them not lasting. you might be able to buy some from VW Heritage, i've never used them but i've heard good things http://www.vwheritage.com/publicRouter.cfm

Now porsche mirrors would look good and hold up well as they are top quality german engineering.

I run a set of Vitaloni "baby tornado" mirrors, painted to match the body color. I get a lot of compliments on them. I like them a lot. They are very good quality. However, I think Vitaloni is out of business, so maybe ebay or the samba classifides will have them if you're interested.
