My 71 squarback keeps overheating. I have had the car for a short time only, all the tin seems to be in place, it runs really well, plenty of power. Its just after some use the oil light will start to flicker at an idle. I put the idle up a bit when I got it since the gas that was in it was quite old and it just sounded better and will drop it again when it has been run. Any advice on checking the timing on a FI 71 1600? Can it be statically set like a 1600 bus?
Oh, the motor does seem to be really hot so I have ruled out a bad sender. Any advice would be appreciated. thank you |

| A week and nobody's answered this? I would have before, but I JUST saw it! Check and see if the engine air thermostat is opening the flaps properly. This is the most likely suspect. If not that, then check for vacuum leaks, advanced timing, and valve adjustment issues. Make sure your oil pressure relief valve isn't stuck. Get yourself a Bentley manual, or, if worst comes to worst, an Idiot's Guide. Then have at it. Try for a Bentley, tho. |
