Does anyone in the Boulder/Denver area have an SCT device I can borrow to try with my Bostig conversion?
I have been having a problem uploading mine and have narrowed it down to the ECU or the SCT at this point. Considering the van will start up and run (although somewhat poorly) I think it may be the SCT that is to blame. If I could borrow someone's for an hour or two I will bring you beer and much good karma in return!

have you tried to change the wires?
dean finally got his started
after swapping the firing order
as it was 180degrees off
but his didnt start at all before
maybe 2 wires are backwards?
he had to use a Timeing light to figure it out
and if i recall 1 and 4 are still the same |

The SCT flasher is lock to the ecu so if you want to use it, the other person have to flash it back to stock tune which unlock the bostig tune so you can flash it on to your ecu. I would check with bostig first. |

To which wires are you referring? Kyle sent me the wiring diagram for the OBDII connector and all of them are correctly hooked up.
My SCT wasn't locked to anything - but it is an older (SN 3000) unit. Maybe the new ones require that?
On a separate issue, the engine will run but it idles too low and tends to surge when giving it gas. Bad idle valve? Seems like even with a non-bostig tune it should stay running half decently? |

From the Bostig site:
How to check/set idle set stop
You shouldn't need to touch this, however because of the variance in age/condition of various components it may become necessary.
The Idle Air Control solenoid (IAC) is the actuator that controls idle speed. The throttle stop let's a set amount of air past the throttle when closed, and then the IAC adds more air as needed. Notice the IAC cannot restrict airflow lower than the idle stop.
To adjust the idle set stop to it's proper position. Warm up the engine. Once fully warmed up (radiator fan cycling etc), disconnect the IAC connector. The IAC is located underneath the intake manifold, and has a single connector facing the front of the van. The IAV itself is facing the driver's side of the engine block and is a silver canister.
Once disconnected, adjust the idle set stop screw on the throttle body (sometimes tricky to get to, use an open end wrench) and adjust the idle to around 850-900 rpm. Then plug the IAC back in and you're done.
It will take several days of drive cycles to perform any learning, so drivability may be affected, if after a few days of drive cycles you still have weirdness or issues, just lest us know! |

Call Bostig!
I had a similar problem (not same, call bostig), they told me to disconnect the idle stabilizer and set the idle, then reconnect. The problem went away. |

Are you replying to OP or bdcain?
The op's problem sounds more like it is in "limp mode" and doesn't have anything to do with a too high idle imo
FWIW OP-my engine would not fire w/out the tune loaded. I could crank it over for days but no fire
As for the idle adjustment procedure-how were you guys able to perform it w/out burning the skin off your knuckles? Mine is around 1050 and I'm awful leery of burning my skin due to the IAC valves close proximity to the manifold |

The SCT is not locked to a van or ecu, it can download and flash as many ECU's as you like |

I tried to set my idle per the bostig instructions, but when I disconnect the IAC valve wiring the engine just immediately shut off. |

Has anyone had this same problem (engine dies when IAC valve unplugged)? |

The above is not accurate ...
bostig wrote: How do you suppose SCT stays in business if what you're asking folks to do were possible? Or why would we have not just flashed all the ECUs going out the door?
Read a bit about how the SCT works, the first couple pages of their user manual for instance, and you'll see what you're trying to do is impossible. It VIN locks to the ECU it has programmed. If you make this offer, havent' used it yourself, and program someone's ECU, you'll never be able to use it on yours!
You're welcome for that save BTW :) |
