Hey fellow VW fans, im 17 and i just bought a 68 squareback as my first car.... before this car i never bothered to think about car, but recently i have developed an obsession with VW's and my car has a something that need to be fixed, and since i know as much about cars as i do about open heart surgery i was wondring if you guys could give me some advice. here is a list of some of the things i want to do:
-replace part of the floor pans
-remove dash and clean under/behind it
-weld a engine mount (i think) that seems to be falling apart
-change the single carb to duals (fuel injection) the single carb pops out above and isnt attractive
-fix seat rails
if you guys could give this super newbie some tips they would be very much appreciated |

Are the seat rails broken themselves? Most of the time you just need the black plastic seat rails covers and pins that the seat slides on. I beleive
www.vwispwest.com sells them.

| well yeah on the driver side i think it just needs to be cleaned and lubricated but the passenger side is broken the right side of the seat just pulls up! so i have to put the rail back on (but its crooked) and then also fix the springs? so they will recline forward? |

| You can use ghia floor pans. Try to get them already quartered, as it will be easier to install this way. Leave the outer edge of the type3 pans, so it will bolt up to the body. You will have to do some fab work to make them fit, but there isn't much choice other than getting some good used pans from www.theddb.com because the aftermarket hasn't made any just for the type3. The reason nobody makes any just for the type3 is, that the type3 pan was originally one piece, with the tunnel welded on top. I hope this helps. |
