You have all been really patient with my questions - so here's an update on the bus ("Angus" as he was named by previous owner - gotta love it!).

Yes - it has a GEX engine, with a reported 8000 +/- miles, but the compression is still good, no abnormal oil consumption, and seems to idle perfectly (with dual IDFs) and run fairly strong (though it's still a turd from 0-60 naturally!) The thing has the 009 distributor, and I suspect that's why I have a hesitation after up-shifting. I'll try larger idle jets too eventually, but for now - I'm happy with it and tolerant of it's needy driver technique. (lots of gas pedal keep the rpms up!)

In searching for answers regarding the adjusting screw / jam nut issue on one rocker - I contacted "BusDepot" who offered me their engine builders' phone number in California. Within minutes, I had "Erin" on the phone - and she was EXTREMELY helpful - and offered to send me a couple of spec lifters, a couple of good rocker arms, and an experimental longer (though NOT surface hardened!) adjusting screw. She said they don't use 'em in their engines, (can you say warranty nightmare?) but they had a drawer full of them if I wanted to try one out. All of this, and her expert advice cost me under $10. I will definitely be back.

I've been driving Angus to work now for 5 days straight....and it's a HOOT!

Thanks all of you for the advice, sympathetic ear, and support!

...now if I could just get a cargo door exterior door lever!

Ciao!

if you need the door lever still, PM me the year of your bus, and exactly which door handle you need. there are several junkyards in my area, and these are redily available pretty cheap ( couple bux)
