Here is a new donor for the doglegs and rear corner. I am also going to rework the passenger side that was crunched and replace the patchwork i did with one large peice from the panel bus. I also plan to use the cargo floor and other small areas. The rest will be used on other buses.

I am amazed. You are obviously an artist. You started with a canvas that someone else messed up and you are about to end up with Mona Lisa!!
Beautiful!!

Here is the 3 7/8 narrowed beam I am building for the 59. It is ball joint and has Avis adjusters. I built 3 inch drop spindles but I am going to make some 4 inch ones to replace the 3 inch. I still have to finish cutting the side flanges and weld everything together. It will have disc brakes from and late bus but I am making some 1/2 plate steel adapters back to five wide. It will also have a booster. It should drive nice with the IRS and power disc brakes and drop spindles.
I built an assembly stand / jig for beams that attaches to my engine stand. I used the frame from the 62 DD panel bus.

Here is the axle and jig I made for my new IRS setup. I took 2 beetle axles and cut them to make one axle for the bus. The jig is so I can roll the axle while I weld it. I am balancing the axles in the lathe. I plan to make spare just in case these decide to break.

I made some pretty good progress this past week. I installed the tranny and then made the custom length axles and installed them. I then went through all the linkage in the front. The clutch pedal assembly the brake and the throttle linkage all came out and was blasted, painted and reintalled. I put in a new clutch cable and relubed the ebrake cables. I then made a new battery tray using the old 62 DD one as a template. I used the brackets from the 62 tray and welded that in with the corner that came from the 62 DD. I hade to cut out alot of rotten metal and I need to go back and weld in a patch panel which is why you see the huge hole.
Here is the 71 bus gas tank installed with the longer straps.

Useing the ones from the 71 I made 2 peices just long enough to bolt to the 59 strap and then to the body. I didn't cut or modify the original 59 straps. Just added the new peices. I take some close ups for you. |

| the LED's arent a bad idea. Alot safer than the regular bulbs. I was reading on strictly vintage where someone is making repro split tailight brackets to accept LED lights. |

What do you mean? These LED fixtures are the same size as an 1157. They fit in the stock socket. I bought these at Advance Auto Parts. Auto Zone also carries them for 16.99 a pair. They are garranteed for 10 years. |
