  View original topic: Peice of floor pan on passenger side wastes leg room, why?

On passenger side of my beetle on the floor is a peice of metal that angles up and wasting leg room. What in the heck is that peice for? Eather way I took it out and there is about 7 inches, more leg room. Thanks, Wes

VW thought it looked better with the panel in. It serves no purpose that I can see.

It's angled that way to act as a passenger foot rest.
Yes, for tall people, it can be more comfortable to go without it.

as far as I remember ( not sure wht year they started though) every type 1 and Ghia and type 3 I've ever had came with one... I've got a slew of them laying around if anyone is missing theirs and would like to put it back.

it does take up a bit of legrom but is great if you have kids or a short gal in your life and it makes the carpet lay in better IMO

I just found one of them in my 78! It was under the backseat on the passenger side. I think the old owner used it to block off the heater!

I used the space under mine to mount a relay and pump for an air horn. Great hiding place for it.
