Inside my hood the release has an adjustable bolt with one or two nuts, and this bolt is what is caught by the latch that moves when you pull the lever. If you loosen the nuts you can screw the bolt up or down. Try turning it in either direction to adjust how easily the hood will close but still "pop" open afterwards. Due to a bad weld job by a PO my latch wouldn't work right no matter how much I turned the bolt, so I ended up removing the stock bolt and replacing it with a longer standard automotive bolt. This helped me adjust it just right.

Hope this helps. You should also lubricate the mechanism by the hood latch to make sure it moves freely.

Good tips. Sometimes the latch just needs cleaning and a small amount of grease applied to the latch and alittle oil on the latch pivot. Many times by turning the screw part of the latch (on the hood) in a couple of rounds it also increases the spring pressure and that can help.

I can't tell from your post whether you screwed the hood lock pin up or down. Look at this link to the Wolfsburg West catalog:

See the pointed shaft with the nuts on the end? (Jeez, doesn't THAT sound wrong!!) If you loosen the nuts you can rotate the shaft and it will move up or down. Play with that adjustment and you should see an improvement in operation of the hood latch.
