I am trying to figure out what color my car is. It has been repainted a different color than original. This is a picture of the backside of the filler door. It is the original color. Thanks!

Scroll down, and look for '71. Looks like you have Sapphire Blue.

The color on the back side of the filler door is the same color that is under the dash and trunk.

Are you sure it's a '71? My '71 Square has a very different sticker on the inside of the filler cap, and that blue doesn't seem to have been an available color that year.

There does appear to be a dark blue available in '72 (which would be a car built in late '71). The paint code list here says "Gentian Blue," and the brochure for that year says "Enzian Blue."

Have you looked under your hood, near the spare tire? There may still be a sticker there that has the original paint code.

The car was built in February of 1971 and the the title and VIN says 1971 and the production plate says February 1. To me the original color is lighter than Sapphire Blue. They had a Gemini Metalic that is lighter but I don't see any metallic in the paint.

Looks just like the same Sapphire Blue my Jan 71 Square-Vert is. That car was a dark blue under the front trunk, rear deck floor, under the rear seat, under the fuel tank, and under the dash. The PO sprayed parts of the car grey, including the dash face on it. Then I replaced the doors and front clip with Clementine Orange parts, that ended up getting sprayed Sapphire blue.

Gentian & Enzian Blue are the same color code L51B
Here's a car with ...

I would say your car is Sapphire Blue 1 year color for Type 3.

I just got my birth certificate back and the factory painted the car Saphire Blue. The new paint is really dark. Can paint under the hood fade that much?
