My O2 sensor just went on and stays on. Driving down the road at 3400 with the engine right at 325. 79 CA emission system. Yes, the one with the little * that says 79 CA only, when you are ordering parts.

I just replaced it a month ago with a new one. I will be running the Bentley troubleshooting for both it and the micro switch, but I don't have a CO sensor.

If I don't see anything out of the normal range with my volt/ohm meter, I am thinking about taking it to the dealer since they have probably have a CO meter and the guy down the street is the Service Manager for the VW dealer. (He has told me he secretely lusts after my bus!)

Which is it more likely to be?

A) the sensor itself
2) the idle mixture of the FI
III) the micro switch or a connection on it

Should I also be looking for a leaky or dirty injector? I am going to have them cleaned in the spring (when I pull the engine) or perhaps I should do that now?

Also would there be a reset button for the the dash light? I didn't remember seeing one when I was last inside the dashboard.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks in advance!

The sensor light knows nothing about your recent replacement of the sensor. It is told to turn on at the mileage counter box, and there is a reset.

Specifically there is a box half way down the speedometer cable behind the driver's side kick panel. Press the reset button on the box.

Thanks guys. I will be running the diagonstics on it over the next couple of days while I am under there steam cleaning it and getting it ready for the complete POR-15 treatment, before it goes into the barn for the winter.

BTW, any of youse guys tried a K&N air filter for the stock FI air cleaner? I don't know if I will be able to crowbar $50 out of my wallet for one. I just use the Mahle one for $5 now. It never seems to run out of breathable air, as far as I can tell.

The stock filter seems great. It has a large area and when it gets dirty it seems you can rotate it to the clean part and dirty that for several thousand miles.

I'd like to know if you really are finding it as low as $5. BD seems to be the best price for the Austrian Mahle filter at $6.95. They cost about $11 in town at the various German parts and repair shops.

I even found one at the dealer a few weeks ago with the VW logo (made in UK). It was $16.27. It's still sitting there on the shelve collecting dust. You'd have to be a nut to buy it at that price. Any guesses what their oil filters cost? ;-)
