Howdy folks,
So tomorrow I am going to attempt to pull the engine and transmission for the first time. It gets better...I have to switch it with the one in my other bug. The engine seems not too bad to switch...but the transmission has got me a little freaked out. Is it hard? Do you guys have any tips or spare parts I should pick up before I start? I need some support....Any words of encouragement? Any input would help. Im going to be pulling it by the book otherwise. Thanks

Drain the oil, Never hurts to change it and the bad motor does not need to be sitting around with oil in it.

Have two floor jacks. (unless they are bajas)

Unhook the heater and accel. cables. Make sure the accel cable is out of the way when re-installing. (nothin like pinching it in the bell housing! :x

Get all wiring.

Remove the rear tin (rear means rear not hidden in front of the fan shroud)

Keep the new motor slightly lower than the trans start the lower studs then tip up and in all 1 motion.

Tranny stuff. Clean the CV bolts on the tranny side otherwise you will strip them. (They are very easy to strip)

Get the tranny coupler under the rear seat

Remove back up light wires from switch under car at the nose cone.

This is not every step just a few pointers. Good luck!
