Today i just bought a 73 super beetle and on the way home I was going a little too fast when I heard a loud boom. Then my engine got really loud. The back spark plug on the right blew out of the cylinder head. I purchased one of those spark plug thread repair thingys with the tap and the sleeves you put on the plug. But as soon as I drove around the block it happened again! Will a shop be able to repair this cheaply? I really dont want to pull the engine. Any useful tips would be great!

Pull the engine and replace the head... if an insert is shooting out you don't have much choice. besides this means more than likely the head is cracked from the spark plug threads over to the exhaust valve area.
Save yourself the greif, get it over with, do it right the 1st time. |
