| Anybody have any experience with rebuilding there engines with a rebuild kit from some place like Kustom1warehouse in Hot VW magazine. I was noticing they offered a rebuild kit for under 200 dollars that has Pistons,Cylinders,Crank,Rod,Lifters,Rod and Cam Bearings,PR Tubes,Oil Pump, Gland Nut,Oil Screen,Gasket set,and Main Seal. That seems like a really good deal to me. What do ya think? |

If that kit has Cofap pistons/cylinders. I would shy away from it. Those are about the bottom of the barrel, quality wise.
Does you case need align bored? That changes the main bearing size if you do that. What is the crank ground too? Most kits are a conglemeration of "last leg" parts. Ask a lot of questions if you purchase a kit from anyone.
Good luck.......... |

I have no opinion on the kits, but my 93mm Cofaps ( Brazilian Mahle ) were fine. They had the moly upper rings, the piston dimensions and weights were all within a .0005"/ 1 gram, and the barrels were nicely honed.

I was under the assumption he was referring to a beetle/early bus style kit. For $200 they had to be. The Cofaps for those are pretty lacking in bore finish. Always had to ball hone them before using. Later Cofap bus kits weren't too bad for the price. |
