I have to install a new engine compartment seal, the big foam kind that seals the engine compartment from underneath. I've never done this before and was looking for some tips.
Do you have to remove anything or do you just kinda work it around? Do you have to use adhesive? Any tips appreciated. That front part ("front is front") seems pretty inaccesable!
Thanks,
Mike

it's a simple but essential fix. A few months ago when I rebuilt my engine I was perplexed by what I found caked in between the cylinder fins. It looked like clay. I finally figured out that it was the remnants of the old engine seal that had been sucked throught the engine fan bit by bit. Mix that foam rubber with a little leaking oil from the pushrods and bake at 350*... makes a nice crust....

I dont know what year your bus is but if it's a 72 or later, it's really easy to change. Nothing special. Just pull the old one and install the new one.

If you are installing the engine at the same time start with the foam like this: shining side down, ends meet by the fan.

Either way, you basically squeeze it through (it's an H-shape) and work your way around. It helps to have a friend pull some parts of it through from the other side.

Let it stretch in the sun before you do it. Bus Depot has the cheapest price on that item. Whoever cuts them doesn't cut them all to the same length so don't be surprised if you get a gap because it will only stretch so much.
