i need some help trying to figure this out....when i turn the key to the first turn...a clicking sound starts and i was wondering if thats normal (i have a 68 SQback) and if it is what is it? i looked under the car and its coming from a small cude thingy and it has a hose, when i moved it my hands smelled like gasoline...so if anyone can tell me what it is cool and thanks

Sounds like an Electric fuel pump to me?

It's your electric fuel pump.

It shouldn't smell like gas unless there's a leak. I'd check into that asap.

ok so its an electric fuel pump which should be checked soon...i think the hose clamp needs to be tightened...so the clicking is normal right?

When you turn the key the first click is the fuel pump relay the next set of clicks (more like a whirr) you hear is the electric fuel pump. If you don't hear those clicks your car will not start. Good luck
