that's a pretty sweet bus. ask him if he takes off the seat covers, if he'll knock off $400. them shits is hella ugly.
no but...4k is a little steep. it is a 71 though...the best year for a bay. i've got one and bought it in sacramento for $1500. yeah, it wasn't in that great of shape but 4400 is pretty expensive. i don't know...sound like a good deal. check it out and if the funds are there go for it. make sure you check underneath the carpeting in front and back. also check for rust inder the sliding door and under the front windshield. anyway...drive it and let us know what's up!

there you go bro

I'm not crazy about those covers either. Thanks for the reply. I've had a 71 westy and 77 westy. This just looks like a good deal if it really is...

Well I'm going to look at it on Sat. I hope it's as good in real life!

It looks pretty decent to me. The price is a little high but other than that good luck. I also don't think a 1641cc is a plus in any purchasing situation. They run a little hot.

How hot? Anything I can do to offset that? I don't know much about the 1641 either...

Unless you're a drag queen those seat covers have got to go. I would drive it home at night and have the TMI kit installed by dawn. Although it almost looks like they were installed over the existing covers, maybe you'll get lucky.

He's still got the og front seats in "okay" condition. They need padding The back seats are still firm, but have some tears and they are under there...
Yeah those covers bug the hell out of me...

Aircooledjosh -- Looks sweet from the pix. Price really isn't that bad in today's California market, if condition really matches the pix. I had more than that in my '71 that I paid $750 for about 2 years back with a blown engine.

I'm about 10 miles from Roseville - if you're coming up on Sat the 6th and want another opinion, give me a call and I'd be happy to go with you to look at it... I'm at Madison & 80 ... Dave 916-483-2642 dstefun@comcast.net

The guy sold it today to a guy who walked in his work. I was going to look at it tomorrow...I'm pissed

Well heck. Guess you'll have to find a 1973 Bus with a beautiful Type 4 engine for those quick California freeways, and don't forget the superior brakes and the wayyy cooool duuuude illuminated heater controls.
Colin
not that I own a '73 or anything

dstefun Fri Dec 05, 2003 10:03 pm

Oh No! I'm sorry to hear that, as it's happened to me too and it's not a nice feeling. But there are others out there, just keep lookin'. I found a '78 Westy last year with only 31K miles on it, altho it did need body and paint work. I paid $1100 for the bus, $2000 for the body and paint, and another $1500 for incidentals like tires, shocks, upholstery, tuneup parts, muffler & cat, window and poptop seals, and just about anything and everything else that was rubber. It had never lived in a garage and was quite California sun cooked. But '78 is a great year too as it has hydraulic lifters, rides nice, and is still a bay. Good luck on finding another one!
