The 2L crank, I assume you are talking about, is designed for a longer stroke than a 1700cc by having a journal that has been offset ground by 5mm.

You'll end up with a 1800cc motor by punching the numbers but the deck height will be too great and the CR will be too low because the 1700cc rods are shorter.

Essentially any time you want a 2L crank, you also need to 2L rods.

ok i have 2 liter rods

so i will be ok with 2 liter rods and crank matched with 1700 pistons and cylinders and 1700 heads?

like i guess what i am asking does the stroke effect the depth of the cylinder and pistons like will it knock against the heads with this 5mm you are talking about or have too much or too littke compression?

the deal is i have a set of 1700 piston cylinders i never used and a 2 liter case crank and rods that i just had rebuilt and the 2 liter heads were all welded or something so the 1700 heads i had to have built rather than the 2 liter ones

thanks

I meant only if you mix and match rods and cranks do you get into serious trouble.

Since you have both and your cylinder and head are compatible you only have to deal with setting the correct deck height. I bet someone at the Type4rum at www.shoptalkforums.com has done this and can tell you want to look out for.
