Hello, I am the proud owner of a 69 Square, but the previous owner has messed the wiring all up!!

Here's what is happening: Nothing on the dash works, specifically, when the key is ON neither the GEN or the OIL light flash, but when the car is running they are both on. The fuel guage, turn signal flashers (the turn signals do work, just not on the dash!!), and dash lights that should come on when the headlights are on, all do not work!!!!

So it appears that the gauge cluster isn't getting voltage. But, what I want to know is, where does it get the juice? Straight from the ignition switch? From the fuse box? Where? How do I figure this out? Muir and Bentley both leave me with little help when it comes to wiring like this.....

Also, the previous mechanic who worked on the car said the last owner was making a turn, and due to heavy rain we were having and some pluged rain channels in the car, a bunch of water was dumped into the car around the dash!!! He thinks this has something to do with why things are screwy..........

Oh and all the other electrical works, headlights, four ways, high beams, brake lights etc....

Any leads?

go to www.type2.com then scroll down till you see library. click on that then click on electrical/primary. then click on vw wiring diagrams and pick your year and there will be an awesome colored wiring diagram for your car. hope this helps.

Yup, it sounds like the black wire that feeds 12V to the gauge has come disconnected from the fuse box. It connects to the switched 12 fuses (like the coil). I hope this helps.
