Here's my new question... I can hot wire the 1974 and it cranks right up... I just replaced the Ignition Switch and still no fire... that leaves either the seat belt interlock or the ignition wire... when I turn the key the Fasten Seat Belt light flashes... even if I buckle up... this leads me to think it is the interlock that is messing it up... where do I find it and how do I bypass it?
Thanks!

Unless they are shorts in the interlock system, I believe you can just unplug them underneath the seats. There are plug in connectors that come apart. I have a 74 that I disabled many years ago in this way without any problems. Hope this helps. Philip

Or check out a good wiring diagram.... the interlock relay is bigger than any other relay and plugs into the plastic fuse block right along with the turn signal relay and the headlight relay. if you pull it out you make a jumper wire that plugs back into the box into the 2 connections where the big red/ striped wires are. It has been awhile since I had to do it but it is either red/whtie stripe or red with black stripe.

I would also fisrt check to make sure the wire from the switch to the rear of the car and the starter is connected at the junction under ther rear seat drivers side near the Voltage reg area, it exits the pan right by the hard brake line... there is a connection there that can be pulled apart when doing some other work inside the car and it can go unoticed.

Here's how to bypass the seat belt interlock, thanks to Speedy Jim...

You don't need to mess around with the relay or jumpers, you just simply unplug the connector under the seat. This tells the relay the seat is empty, allowing you to start the car in "mechanic" mode as if you were reaching through the window to start the car.

I don't remember ever having to jump the relay in my 74. I just disconnected the seat connection where it plugs in at the floor.

On my 74 SB I had the problem of nothing happenin' when I turned the key... We finally traced it the fuse block under the dash. There is a relay that plugs in the back of the fuse block that had gone bad. when we made a jumper wire for the two center wires it worked perfectly again. Several months later I got the "Bug Me" video on wiring, and Rick Higgins explained that excact problem and how to fix it. It was a "thing" only on the 74's. Have A Good One, Darryl
