Anybody know what size the rear wheel bearings are on the 79 bus?
Would like to have them on hand before I dissassemble.

| I wouldn't know the size, but it seems easy enough to go to a site) like www.busdepot.com or other supplier and get part numbers or just order them specifically for your year bus to get the right ones. Don't forget the axle seals/ kits too. |

It's not typical to order them by size, but by part number:
inner: VW 211 501 287
outer: VW 211 501 283D
You need one of each per side. Different manufacturers will have different part numbers but if they cross-ref other numbers except VW try these:
inner: 6207-J or 207
outer: GRW111
The inner bearing is common to several other manufacturers and is typically low cost. The outer bearing is unique to VW buses and the price is much higher for German bearings. Chinese bearings are cheapo no matter the application.
Here are the sizes for whatever reason you need them:
inner bearing:
ID 1.3780
OD 2.8346
WIDTH 0.6693
outer bearing:
ID 1.3780
OD 2.4409
WIDTH 0.7480
