So my '66 square, ex-daily driver for 14 years, has been sitting in my back yard with a newly rebuilt engine for a year now. I cannot get it to stop misfiring at high rpms. It idles fine and transitions OK, but pops out of the right(1&2) side. Timing, points, valves, and carb sync are all right on and there are new plugs and wires. Any thoughts on what to check. I have tried a dozen or so times to fix. I even swapped out the carbs with NOS ones just to eliminate that problem. I willing to try anything before I drop the motor and tear it apart to find the problem. Thanks

| Are you sure it's not too lean on that side? You can get lean pop whem the motor is revved up. |

| You mentioned that you changed the carb on that side, did you put it back? What size jets are you running in it (both sides)? Let us know. Were they both having a clogged jet problem? Plug wires correct all the way around? Valve adjustment correct? I'm only asking, because sometimes its the little things that trip you up. I've had clean fuel get dirty just from "flushing" the lines with fresh gas too, especially if the car had/has been sitting any length of time. Just some things to think about. I hope this helps. |

I'm sure you have balanced the carbs. at idle but have you also rechecked the balance at mid rpms? Maybe one of your linkage rods is misadjusted or bent a tiny bit.
This suggestion might be a reach, just trying tot hink of everything... |
