I noticed in the archives that these floor mats were a dealer option in 1972. I have a 1972 superbeetle and I was interested in knowing if anyone has any or anything about them.

Yes, they were an accessory you could buy at the dealer.
There is a front and rear and they came in various colors.
Black/Red/Brown/maybe others?
Black is the most common.
I've owned a couple sets over the years and my old '67 Squareback had a set from new or close to it.
$450 is out of this world crazy, especially for repros.
Watch the classifieds, they pop up for sale from time to time.
I think the last front I saw was $100-$150 and it sold so they are not cheap. |

These Wolfsburg Floor Mats first appeared in Volkswagen Accessory brochure in 1967, made in Canada by Rubbermaid.
There's a set of NOS black mats right now in theSamba Classified for $1000.
I had a Red NOS Set in the OG Box that sold for $500. in 2007
They fit Type 1 & 3 VW

Just so people don't get confused, $1000 is also crazy insane.
It's the same seller as the reproduction ones. |

Hope I don't offend anyone with my tastes, but personally, I never liked those, since they were made to a common template and you had to trim off the excess, particularly for Bugs. They had a "puzzle piece" look if you put them in a T3 and left them untrimmed so they would fit. I thought it was cheap of VW to not just make two designs, each made to fit their Type.
So instead I had plain cheap Sears mats from another car to keep the carpet clean. So what taste do I really have after all? ;-) |

I. Have a set that came out of my 71 super that I put in my 72 super. Not mint but presentable enough for me. |
