View original topic: What is this sound?

There is a "ching ching ching" type of sound coming from the engine area. I'm guessing it might be the generator or belt or both. Any ideas?
Thanks

pea-shooter or aftermarket exhaust? If aftermarket exhaust, I would guess a piece of loose tin. That, or it could be Santa.

i have a stinger on it, ill look around for something loose?
could it be the belt though?

Check to see if the rear tin is rubbing on the lower pulley, especially if you are using a degree wheel aluminum pulley.

this may sound stupid to you but check to see if the baffel in your stinger moves. if you dont use a set screw in the baffel it will rattle loose and make a noise like you are hearing,
had same prob.... start the car and go stand behind it, then put your foot on your stinger and see if the noise stops...

if its that it a easy fix

Don't imagine it's the belt. There's no middle ground on belts. They're either all together, or all gone. And if it's lose enough to go ching ching ching, then it would just come off.

Check that baffle first, had the same prob on my V-Twin. Then check the tin or a dead cat stuck in there somewhere.

maybe the timing is too advanced?

No kakaroot, that would be ping, ping, ping. I believe he is encountering, ching, ching, ching. Clearly two different problems.

Sorry kakarottt, my bust on the spelling

ya i found the problem, i guess i scraped the bottom of my stinger while going up a driveway and it pulled the header off the heater channel so i just pulled on it and went back to where it was. the ching noise was a metal ring between one end of the header and the heater channel. thanks for the replys and the help!
