my sidelights weren't working, but i cleaned up the connectors & tested them & they were working fine. i put the left light back together again, tested the sidelight & it worked, wired the right side up & tested them, & now they both don't work. i had the bulbs tested & they're fine, & the fuses look fine to me. i was told it could have something to do with the earth wire. i've had problems with the lights working one day and not the other, any ideas where to start?

i gave my mate alex a grand tour of my car, followed by a little ride up & down the driveway, & they sidelights decided to work again so i ain't complaining!

MY OTHER PROBLEM (besides the obvious! :P ) - my beetle starts fine & runs nicely for a few minutes then it'll always cut out. i don't understand because if i leave it for a few seconds after it cuts out, and then start it up, it won't cut out again :?
i know that my timing is not perfect because it makes a sound like 'putttt' sometimes (don't laugh i'm new to the dubbers scene!) but if it runs fine after it has cut out i doubt the timing is the problem

The single most common electrical problem in all of the veewee kingdom is poor earth (ground) connections, and this is the most prevalent cause of intermittant functions. Clean all connections on both ends of each wire if you have access to both ends, remove the wires from wherever they are connected, clean and tighten the connections and put it all back together. 30 years of corrosion adds up quick, especially in your good English weather! Good luck!
