68 vw project rescued by my son and myself. This is on the day of adoption, a very nasty rainy day. Nevertheless is proving to be a good father son project. Will post more pics soon if this trial run works.https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1170649.jpg

Some odds and ends rust but nothing too bad body wise. Looking at welders but have a great father in law I can borrow from. Never been much of a body guy but gonna learn as I go. Assuming there is a hole under all that gunk on the left side heater channel just in front of the vent.

Bakerby Fri Feb 14, 2014 11:56 am

Another couple suspect areas with gunk covering something, gee I wonder if it's a hole? Lower left and right package tray.

Bakerby Thu Feb 20, 2014 11:37 am

Lots of holes but progress.nevertheless. Getting really tire of wire wheel, but got lots more to do

Front end work starting with the brakes. typical 40 yo car star adjusters were frozen, pads shoy springs a little rusty. Cleaning up the backing plates and hub. Bearings looked good so will re use them.

Brakes done (on front) all new ball joints, and tie rod ends and a fresh coat of rust oleum . I removed the arms and had a shop press out the ball joints and new ones in. Even after explaining the clocking of the ball joints to the press flunkie he put 2 of them in wrong and they had to buy me 2 new joints and try again.

Another welding project. Amazing what po's consider a proper repair job . Just fill full of crap and paint over it.....good enough.....NOT!

Bakerby Thu Feb 27, 2014 10:38 am

Bowden tube adjustment, might have went just a little bit over kill but should work. Just didn't feel like body work so peddled on other stuff today.

Bakerby Thu Feb 27, 2014 10:46 am

Front end, brakes and lines and pan are done. Moving rearward. Nothing too crazy yet but the front right tie rod end was from late model and l one from early model. It's a 68 what can a fella expect?

Bakerby Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:30 pm

Rear brakes done, trannie cleaned and painted ...life is good. Next up body work and clutch

Bakerby Mon Mar 03, 2014 10:24 am

More wire wheel work and put in a new clutch. Gonna try and get engine back in this weekend. -5 today so it's gonna have to warm up significantly

Bakerby Fri Apr 25, 2014 10:46 am

Been offline for a while, got the engine reinstalled and then tore off the tin to spruce it up some along with intake and exhaust. Started working with body filler and getting her ready for a primer coat.
