I will be pulling the trans on my bus this spring, and would like to change the shift rod coupler while I'm in there. There's nothing wrong with the old one, other than that it is 30+ years old. With all the overseas junk for sale these days, I'm just wondering who (if anybody) sells a good stock-type bus shift rod coupler? Also what about the urethane couplers? Do they transmit a lot of noise?

There's nothing better than the original VW factory couplers. The vulcanizing, rubber, steel, forging, alignment, setscrews, all are far superior. If it's been kept un-oily and relatively weather hidden then use it. If it's soggy or cracked from drying then it might be junk.

Urethane sucks in my opinion and yes they transmit an aggravating hum.

Ronnie at Bustoration may have a good aftermarket style. There are some really good aftermarket ones now. Be certain the part that holds the setscrews is of strength or it will crack when you tighten and the alignment of the setscrews is straight in a line.
