View original topic: Help me estimate HP and torque of this engine for a clutch.

I need help buying the right clutch. The engine is a 2276 with CB 42X37 mini wedgeport heads, FK43 Cam and 9.5:1 compression. 48mm CB throttle bodies and 1 5/8" merged. This is a street driven car.
I want this clutch disc.....

And I have this pressure plate.....

Is this going to be enough or will it slip? Kennedy 1700lb?

Anyone want to take a guess of the hp and torque of this motor combo?

I think that could hold 140 ft-lb but you will need more.

The disk is ok but you'll need 1500-1700 pound pressure plate.

A Kennedy Stage I with stock disc will handle 180 ft. lbs. torque.

A Kennedy Stage II with stock disc is good to 220 ft. lbs. torque.

With a better disc you should be able to get more than that out of each one.

Don't make your transmission the weak point.

"Genuine Saches" - sounds like a Chinese cheapy with a name meant to trick you into thinking it is a Sachs. Buy a decent pressure plate such as the Kennedy Stage 1 and that disk will be fine. You only really need to go to a stronger pressure plate if you are drag racing, but remember that will be hard on the drivetrain.

Disks like the Daikin are designed to tolerate a bit of slip, which is what you really want.

The tranny is a Rancho Pro Street. Looks like I will need the KEP stage 1. I have the long extra long clutch release arm so pedal pressure will be good.

I am a big fan of the Copperhead, very smooth engagement, but also bites hard. I had it in a peppy 2276 and an all steel bug and it was very pleasant to drive. But also held when I wanted to drive more spiritedly. Stage 1 Kennedy will go just fine with it. The long arm will make it a breeze to drive.

175hp...175ftlbs torque I have almost the same engine. I use the Stage 1 with a daiken disc.
