View original topic: How high should a tachometer need to measure?

I'm getting a Tach for my son's Baja Bug. It's got an 1835 with a 110 cam. We're not running a high winding engine. Should I get him a 7000 rpm Tach?

Thanks,

I don't think you need anything over 6K but there's a wider selection of tachs at 7 or 8k. From what I've seen

Counterweighted crank or not? If it's a stock crank, a 6k Tach will be fine as you really dont want to spin it higher than 5500. You can push it higher when its counterweighted, but the 110 cam will still limit your RPM capabilities.

under 6k tach should be fine. The lower the numbers the further apart they are spaced and easier to read.

I got a 8k tach when I had a 1600. I have since upgraded to a 1776, 1904 and not a 2180. Same tach since 1980.

Get a 8k and be done with it.

Thanks! This is our first VW. I had no idea what range it was operating in.
