I've read that a good item to use with a winch is a boat anchor. Anyone actually using this method? |

A danforth style anchor may work, but the angle may not work as well as a pull-pal (www.pullpal.com) |

IF in sand... Bury your spare tire and use it as a "deadman"...

I remember an old army film for the DUKW where they used an anchor buried in the sand to pull stuck Ducks in loose sand. Good enough for the allies, good enough for me. They also lower the tire pressure to increase surface area. |

take a walk thru the marine catalogs, west marine, boaters world etc.
They all have a good selection of "folding" sailboat anchors and such, sometimes referred to as a "lunch hook"
A 8 inch wide 3 tine folder will pull a mini truck out of a mud hole with a 2500 lb winch. Worked good with my woods buggy.
