View original topic: Rubber Boots on Spark Plug Wires

I have these odd rubber boots all 4 of my spark plug wires.

Did a shop put the wrong wires on? (they did a 'tune-up' a couple of years ago)

The van seems to run fine, but I wonder if it would run even better with different wires...

These look like they are made for air-cooled motors and the rubber boots would block air flow in the tin around the engine.

2. Another question: what is that connector with the brown (gnd) and green and yellow wires on it? Also, is it ok just hanging like that or should I zip tie it to something?

Thx

I believe you are correct, made for air-cooled engines to seal.

you can leave it like that or you can push it all the way down snug with the spark plug hole. The purpose of the rubber boot is to seal dirt that went around the park plug without it the next time you remove the spark plug dirt will get in the cylinder.

Nope - they are down all the way - the larger dia. metal piece you see in the pic prevents further movement.

But I guess the wires are ok to leave in(?)

Yeah, they're okay. There were air-cooled wires on my '86 when I bought her. I changed them...
