my transmission has been doing some odd things.. when in neutral, it puts a strain on the engine, and makes a low pitched noise.. i also have to downshift from 4th - 3rd - 2nd - 1st to get into first alot.. at a dead stop or not.. though the other gears work fine. makes lots of noise in 4th gear.. is it possible that it is bent?
yes, i am a complete idiot. all parts included. some re-assembly required. |

Your first gear syncro is shot. That's why shifting into 2nd first helps it get into first, by shifting into second, that syncro slows down the input shaft to the point where its easier for first gear's syncro to allow it to engage.
The noise in 4th gear indicates your forward mainshaft ball bearing is shot. Its going to be a very short time before your trans will give up completely. Plan on a rebuild in the very near future. |
