View original topic: Power difference between Turbo 1776 and N/A 1904?

I know there are all kinds of variables that goes into this question but I have something in mind I would like to do and I'm trying to get a rough guess as to what the power difference would be between these two setups? Assume the same heads and cam for the sake of this question. Thanks

you already know this is a super vague question. how about putting some constraints around it. what are your goals? is the 1776 a stock crank? how much boost? what cam? what heads? carbs or efi? pump or race gas? daily driver, buggy, or race car?

without knowing those things the turbo has more potential to make power because you can cram a crap load of air and fuel into it at high boost.

My 1776 cc engine has 67.4 HP to the ground. Did a dyno run a few weeks ago. 1776cc C-25 scat cam, 1.4 ratio rockers, 40mm 35.5mm valves port polished, balanced crank and dual 40mm Kadrons 90.5 pistons. Keep in mind that this was at 5500 feet above sea level! Oh ya 89.7 foot pounds of torque.

Just based upon what you've asked, the boosted motor will make the same or more power/TQ (on low/medium boost) than the N/A motor on the same fuel. And a bunch more power/TQ on higher levels of boost and the same fuel. The bigger difference will be in when and how the boost hits VS. the instant power of the bigger N/A motor.

You can't compare the two. They drive totally different from one to another.

I have had a 1915 w/turbo)40 dcoe T4 installed on my VolksRod(purdy heavy car) and a 2332 w 48 IDA's installed in a Tub Buggy (1320 lbs)
and I'm thinking it would be a close ass race
I had 15+lbs of boost ,draw through
turbo car seemed to pull HARDER,,,,hope this helps?

Short answer is the turbocharged engine will always be capable of more... How far you willing to go?
