I've been having problems with my engine cutting out. I pulled the carb and found sediment in the bowl. I suspect the gas tank is a bit rusty. So I drained the gas tank and pulled the tube out of the bottom and it looks like it has been cut. Why would you cut the tube? Doesn't that make it more susceptible to sucking the crud into the fuel line?
The tank is rusty and the screen had stopped some of the rust. I'm getting it cleaned and sealed. |

It might have rusted out if water got in the tank, and then it broke off. No good reason to cut it off that I know of. |

Definitely didn't rust off. It was a shiny new cut. |
