I have a 73 Super that was originally malibu blue, but at some time in the past was spray can painted white. I'd like to repaint it the original color, malibu blue. However, I don't want to just sand the white paint and put on another layer of paint. I'd like to remove only the white paint, leaving the original malibu blue and then paint another coat of malibu blue on top of that. Anyone had any experience doing this? Is it feasible, and if so what would be the best way to only remove the one layer of white paint? thanks for any advice.

You will need to sand the original paint anyway, to "key" it for the next coat. So you may as well sand off the white, and not risk getting some solvent in the original paint, and then have the new paint bubble or orange peel.
