Not from a Bus but it looks sort of familiar.
I'm not sure it's VW at all though.
It looks like a seat release for the side of a front seat in a passenger car. |

Looks like the seat release for a Beetle, late 66 to early 67... But I can't remember if they had an ivory knob? |

Up to mid '67 then it got raised to the upper seat back on the side and different. There might even be a '67 one in between that style and the seat back style.

I agree. It's just like the ones in my '66 Beetle. I think the knob color was determined by the color of the other interior knobs. |

my early 67 is just like the one in the pic with the black knob. my later 67 has the release lever on the seat back. |

Now that we all know what it is (1966-67 seat release lever). Is it 4-sale? :D |

Definitely a desirable item for someone who needs one. It took me FOREVER to track one down for my 66 ...finally found one in the UK ...paid about $45 for it. |

Hi! I just searched in two books (the brown book which covers most changes made and another one covering all VWs from the beginning up to 1980 or so) and they both show this handle as being introduced in 1965 (in Europe). Although my bug is a 1962 I wanted the seats with those handles (I can live with that incorrect Detail). The original color of the seats was red, and the knob was light grey. If I remember correctly, my seats were from a 1967 bug.

I just posted some pictures to the Albums of an NOS 113 881 586
right side Black Lever, Black Knob for Passenger side. Seems earlier version had part number 113 881 581/582 Described as Arm-Locking mechanism-Backrest,front,left,right. correct for 1966 and 1967.
don't know how to put pics here yet but here is the title for albums

That's interesting ....and odd. Pretty certain that style seat / seat lever was not introduced on North American Beetles until the 1966 model year. Good news is that we now have a whole new source for this part: 64 and 65 European market Beetles. |

I just re-read the two books mentioned above and have to correct my former post: those handles were introduced in Germany with the model year 1966 but were shwon in both books under "changes made in 1965". I´m sorry for posting wrong information.
