I have installed a brand new clutch, clutchplate and thrustbearing. I dont know if the guy who adjusted my old clutch loosened or tightened the wingnut to make the clutch "good" again..
Anyway.. After i installed the new kit the clutch doesnt catch at all, so i guess it needs to be adjusted back. What i dont know is if the wingnut needs to be loosened or tightened? |

Loosen: increase the pedal clearence (free space)
Tighten: decrease. |

Typically, with a new clutch, the wingnut needs to be loosened.
As the clutch disc itself wears, the clutch cable/wingnut gets tightened to compensate (and to correct the freeplay at the pedal top to about 20mm). |

Actually, it's the opposite: the disk wear causes the pressure plate thrust ring or
fingers to move closer to the throwout bearing, causing a reduction in pedal freeplay.
The wingnut must be loosened to restore the original freeplay. |

I've never seen a VW "wear" to the situation where there was too little free play, always too much free play. |
