Hi,

I've got a 67 sedan and I was told by the guy I bought it from that it had a 1300 in it. I've gone through the chassis and engine number matrix and have found what I think to be a October 66 build and the engine to be a 40bhp DIN 1300. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php

Could somone confirm this to be correct and that this is an original engine in my car? Also, would this car have been sold in the US or elsewhere in the world?

Thanks for the help!

Chassis: 117 284 978
Engine: F0 036 228

Not sure how you got October 66 but that is very early F series 1300 from the first month they were made in mid 65.
Certainly not original to your car, all those US 67s were 1500s

Thanks... That's what I thought. October 66 was the chassis build.

Many non-US 1967s got 1300cc engines, but yours is probably just not original. Pretty common for ~45 year old VWs not to have their original engine. ;)

I misread what you wrote, sorry I thought you were talking about the engine build date.
