Last night my 67 beetle was running fine, and started up fine for a couple days, until I tried to start it back up and it wouldn't fire up. The battery wasn't dead because I could hear the engine trying to turn over, but there was just no ignition. My first thought was that the engine was flooded somehow. But it never started up by key, but when I compression started it, it ran just fine. Haven't tried it again yet. The only reason I could think if that's faulty is I have 3 Bosch spark plugs and 1 ngk. Any help is appreciated, thanks. |

Spark plug brand shouldn't matter. If the engine can be push-started, and the battery can spin the engine at the proper/usual speed, then it should start, because either way you are supplying voltage to the coil just need the engine to spin at decent rate.
So maybe your battery is just spinning the engine too slowly.
While it's cranking but not starting, what's the voltage reading across the battery terminals, post that. |

I don't have anything to read the voltage and I'm very limited on money. Should I take my battery down to get it tested? When I drove it today I push started it again and when I turned it off I waited about two minutes to try and start it again and same thing happened. |

Yes, have it tested. O'Reilly and AutoZone will do for free, and test battery under load. Your cranking voltage under load should be 9.6 volts or greater,a nd they can also measure amps.
You don't have to remove the battery either, could push start it and drive there.
Question: have you tried to jump-start from another vehicle? If it starts then, your issue is isolated to bad battery or bad connection between battery terminals and cable terminals. |
