Hey guys, need some help.
All spring I've been revamping a rail I got last year, and it's almost ready to go, but the valves are way out, and I need to adjust them.
Problem: I can't get the motor to turn to TDC...
It will turn about a half inch, then comes to a hard stop.
(and I don't want to force it)
It's a 1600 dp from a 71 bug.
It will start and run, but not real well. (as I said, the valves are way out)

Any ideas why I can't manually turn it?

Thanks!

Plugs in or out.... Will it turn backward and not forwards.... Distributor in?....

The plugs are in... wasn't aware you needed to take them out.
Won't turn either way.

Take the plugs out and then try it. It should turn much easier with em out.

I had an engine that would only roll about an inch. Turned out to be a broken tooth off the EMPI oil pump. I dont think you should assume anything though. Just sayin to say.

Pull your plugs and dont force it.
